Just finished the Aprils Tags calibration, the template burn and went to draw a rectangle around one of the corners (#2). Since my red dot locator is in working order, I didn’t actually burn the rectangle to check alignment, at least not yet.
Glad I didn’t burn because the location I sent the laser to was far off from the actual April tag. So I went into the Move tab and adjusted the offset of the rectangle vector to align with the burned ATag. Pushed the Start button and the laser head went right back to the same location it was before making any offsets. I even went way out, as in 100 mm, from the burned image and the vector but the laser head still goes right back to the first location.
It’s as if the offset function isn’t working or at least is NOT seeing the changes within the field I’m using. Same for both X and Y.
Thinking I might need to redo the recognition portion of the April Tags but feels useless to do so if I can make adjustments afterwards. And I don’t think using the manual routine of infinity looking vectors will solve that problem.
I did see 100% on each of the placements during the April Tag calibration, even though some of them didn’t actually have all of the April Tags turn green within each location. Apparently, or at least from what I’ve read, it doesn’t have to. So I continued onto the next location. When finished with all of the ones in the corners, I included some other locations as well. Ultimately, I got a 90% score and carried on with the burning.
Also, It’s a 2ft x 3ft bed and no matter which fill grouping I chose to help with the burning, it still took 1hr 40mins to make the alignment burn template. All at once, separately or individually, same amount of time.
On my tablet, so I cannot address everything but here goes…
April tags calibration is separate from Alignment.
If you do lens calibration, then you must follow with the Alignment.
1.6 hours to burn 4 crosshair targets suggests you were sweeping across the table raster style. I think you should be able to burn each target individually.
Forgive me if you think I am Captain Obvious. I was not sure how you actually ran thru the setup process.
Yes sir, aware of all of that but thanks.
I went exactly as described in their instructional video.
Resolution of camera is 3840x2160. LightBurn’s own 8 megapixel camera.
I have checked both the number 1 & 2 locations. Both appear to be off exactly the same amount. I haven’t moved the bed nor the burned template that followed the ATag calibration.
Like I stated previously, there was no time difference made in burning the template while selecting different options.
Same direction or opposite directions? Shift or spread?
It will help if you can do some screen captures (SHFT+WinKey+S) during the Calibration, Aligment, and Update Overlay processes.Pictures save a lot of typing.
Pictures won’t be helpful of the screen as that has nothing to do with what’s going on inside the laser.
Everything looks good to great with the software and the cal. Just doesn’t line up. Simple as that.
Imagine any given spot on the template that I’ve drawn a 1" square in the software as a vector. I’ve placed objects inside the bed that size or larger or smaller. Used the camera view to place the square vector around that object and activated the Framing function. The route taken by the laser head if off in the direction by about a half inch or so both to the left of the object (-x) and (+y).
Laser homes in upper left corner.
Making changes in the offset of the camera view (and taking screenshots of the changes) has no effect on where the laser head tracks around said object regardless of where it’s at on the laser bed.
Do you need a video of that process to help understand what’s happening? I can certainly do that if you think that would help you in any way.
I’ll draw it up in LightBurn and post a detailed description in that picture.
Not how I use it. My dot is exactly where the laser burns.
I pulse the laser and verify red dot is exactly pointed at that location. Of course, it sits at that spot ONLY when the laser is focused on the material.
So the red does in fact track where the laser is going to burn. I even set the offset to 0.000 but it still is off the intended location.
Yes, I closed and restarted LightBurn, powered down the Ruida, powered down the laptop, etc.
Also, I refreshed the firmware in the Rudia a time or two just to be certain. Went back one version of firmware too, no change, so I set it back to the latest. Again, no change.
I had tried that before as well but it didn’t have any effect on it being off. I came to the realization late last night that everything should actually be zero’d to start with and work from there
Shut everything down as I normally do at the end of the day and went to the house.
So before I read your post just now, I’d already set everything to 0 and then I moved the square directly over where the item was that was laying on the bed. Then framed and it worked.
Came here to post the latest saga information and found you’d replied. Thanks.
No idea what was happening yesterday or the day before, but it’s working and I’m glad. I have a couple of orders to get out today, but the issue was bugging me to no end.
I understand about posting pics, but with all the changes I was trying, nothing was working and at least in this case, making changes to the fields (even zeros) and showing that it didn’t work, then making other changes and showing it still didn’t work seemed pointless to me.
I’m a big proponent in the “thousand words” cliche but just not in this case.
