60W MOPA Photo Engraving Settings – Need Advice

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone experienced with 60W MOPA photo engraving on stainless steel can help.

I’m using an xTool F2 Ultra 60W MOPA.

No matter what I try, I always end up with one of two results:

  • Black from the top, but silver/hollow when viewed from an angle, or
  • Visible from more angles, but with a grainy / metallic / crystalline texture across the entire portrait.

I have not been able to achieve a smooth grayscale portrait that remains dark and visible from all viewing angles.

If anyone has successfully achieved this, I would really appreciate your workflow.

Bitmap Image Engraving

If possible, could you share your settings for:

  • Dot Duration
  • Power
  • DPI
  • Bitmap Mode (Jarvis, Stucki, Grayscale, etc.)
  • Pulse Width
  • Frequency
  • Number of Passes
  • Bidirectional or Unidirectional

Cleaning / Preparation Pass

If you use one before the image, could you also share:

  • Power
  • Speed
  • Lines/cm (Line Interval)
  • Pulse Width
  • Frequency
  • Crosshatch On/Off
  • Bidirectional or Unidirectional
  • Number of Passes

I’m interested in 304 or 316L stainless steel.

Thank you very much!
