Ability to break text block into separate rows**

When I import a block of text into LightBurn it works great the text appears as editable text in LightBurn and save me from re-entering it, but the text is all in one single text block and changes affect the entire block.

But most times after I import the text I will need to make some changes to it. Usually on a line by line basis (Header row needs to be a larger , last row maybe a different font).

So it would be great if there was a text edit tool that broke the block apart into separate lines of text, each line individually editable/changeable.

I know I can just convert the text block to a path and then group each line and adjust that way, and that is very helpful, but it would be better if it were still editable text.

You don’t have to convert the text block into a path, you can just break the one large text block into as many smaller text blocks as needed.

Right-click on the large text block and ‘Edit Text Shape’, select and ‘Cut’ the lines you want and paste them as (or to) a new Text object.

I do not want the text to be a path, I want each text line to be a separate text line that I can change the text size, font etc.

For example, if I import a list of name from another program (I select the list copy it and then paste it in place in Lightburn. The list of names is treated as one large text element. All the names must have the same text attributes. I am asking for each line (name) to be it’s own text element

I just finished testing this.

If LB parsed PDF text properly you would be able do this.

All you would need to do is ungroup the block of text and each line (paragraph) would be a separate block then editable with “Edit Text Block” which includes: font change, height (should be called point size) and change wording and/or correct spelling. This is along with all the other options available in the “Edit Text Block” window.

@LightBurn

Are you saying that importing the text as a PDF allows each line to be it’s own text block?

I had never tried that

No need to convert to paths and no on importing PDF.

You currently have ONE block of text. You can use ‘cut’ (ctrl x) and paste (ctrl v) from the existing block to now make several blocks of text and edit as needed.

We do plan to revisit the Text Creation/Editing options for further enhancement in the very near future.

That would work if LB corrected the way it imports PDFs.

Thanks Ron. You have been clear with what you want.

What program is creating the text, and what file format are you using for import into Lightburn?

I usually paste my text into Notepad to be sure it is clean (no odd formatting characters) and then cut and paste from that into LightBurn using Paste in Place.

Then I need to open the text block up in the LightBurn Edit Text Shape and cut each line out and re-paste it into another location on the Lightburn workspace. I can make it work, It just takes longer than it should.

I don’t know if this is easier or faster than the way you are doing, it might be worth a try?

Just copy one section of text at a time from Notepad that you need to remain a separate block and paste into LB.
