Alarm 2 G-code motion target exceeds machine travel. - ugh

Have a new Ortur Aufero Laser 1. Had it rocking and was using the rotary just fine. Using lightburn trial for the last 20 days and ready to sign up. However after this last update all things went south fast. Ran a project before bed and worked like a champ. Computer restarted during the night, now I get a Alarm 2 and it will not frame.

Homing works. can manually move the head with “move” directional arrows.

I’ve read every thread I can find and tried all the suggestions.

Here are my results. Any help appreciated before I throw it out the window. LOL

I’ve done the reset over and over. $RST=* same results

Appreciate the thorough post. I think 2 things going on. We’ve got the root issue itself and also a firmware issue that’s possibly preventing your remedies from working.

This is likely the problem. Can you try running a homing cycle and then run this command in Console:

G92 X0 Y0

Power cycle and then retest. Hopefully that works.

Assuming it does, you should consider upgrading your firmware to the latest version. Note this item from the release notes:

  • Fix bug on G92 offset table to become permanent and resist $RST=* and power cycle. Now G92 G56 tables are volatile.

I suspect this is why your $RST=* attempts did not remedy the issue.

Firmware located here:
Ortur – Firmware Repository – Ortur

Ok, did the G92 X0 Y)

That zero’d out, but still won’t frame. Next?

I try to update the firmware, I can see the laser on E drive, and copy the file, but when I go to paste it, the e drive closes without accepting the file and an error code appears

Looks like you’re trying to apply the wrong file.

Make sure you get the file from the correct part of the site. I assume this is your machine based on your description.

Can you describe in as much detail as possible what happens? Can you please capture the alarm message from Console and paste here?

I’m noticing that you are on User Origin. Is there a specific reason for this? If not, I suggest you use Absolute Coords. That may be the issue if your User Origin is set at an odd location.

I’ve tried it under current, absolute and user. no luck. Will go back and pay more attention as to which file to retrieve and try again. I’ll reply in more detail in a bit, have to run grandkids to school. =)

I successfully updated the firmware.

however still get this error message

G-code motion target exceeds machine travel. Machine position safely retained. Alarm may be unlocked. (Right-click the ‘Devices’ button to reset the connection)

WOW It’s is working now!!! Huge Thanks!

Haha… what changed? Worth documenting here in case anyone else runs into this.

Well, short lived victory. Now having a Alarm 9 Homing alert issue with the rotary.

If I go back to the X/Y axis, all is good.

Attach the rotary - worked for 1 mug, then when I changed the rollers for a wine glass, I got a homing error. Now out of bounds again!

Now when I try to “test” the rotary, it is exceeds travel as well.

For rotary you typically need to disable soft limits and homing. May be easier to do this from machine settings or setup a pair of macros for this in the Console window.

Disable:

$20=0
$22=0

Re-enable:

$20=1
$22=1

Ok. well right now I’m struggling with when I go back to default with the regular X-Y axis,
It will home from anywhere, but when I try to frame, I’m back to square 1 with out of travel area

Your workspace is sized to 180.1x180.1 mm. Try changing it to 180x180 mm. Wondering if that’s potentially throwing it off.

Also, did you get that message while in Absolute Coords as well? Not surprised you’d get it during current position but want to confirm.
