Algolaser PIXI Rotary Roller setup

I am trying to setup the Algolaser PIXI with the Rotary Roller Lightburn. The engraver uses a GRBL connection and the roller is connected to the A Axis on the machine.

When I first connected the roller to the engraver and opened the Rotary Setup dialog, I entered 15.600mm for the Roller Diameter. The degrees per rotation is automatically set to 360 and grayed out.

When I click the Test button, the roller rotates more than 360 degrees. In Machine Settings I do find the settings A Steps per mm ($103). It was set to 80.000. I’ve noticed that when I change this setting, it affects the number of rotations when the Test button is pressed.

How would I accurately compute the number of steps per mm so that it only does a 360 degree rotation? I’ve tried trial and error and am not getting the precise steps needed.

Also, is there a way to change the axis the rotary roller is on? I have a little more room if the roller is perpendicular to the Y axis.

Thanks!

I don’t think that’s possible. From a mechanical point of view, it always makes sense to have the x-axis move most, because it’s most lightweight. As such, the use case you mention is very rare.

Though, you could play with either electrically changing the axis or try to change the workspace orientation by 90 degrees in the device settings. Worth a try.

To get the correct step values: put in a first guess. Then manually command the axis to do a full rotation, then measure the outcome. Though, the steps per mm depend on the diameter of the object and will change. That’s why the assistant will help you without modifying the steps value itself.
