Hey Guys, loving the new enhancements, ESPECIALLY virtual arrays. Big time saver. Thank YOU!
I tried to read through the other threads on VA and it looks like this might be somewhat related to some other commentary but I wasn’t sure if I was better glomming on to another thread or creating a new specific one.
My issue (or request) is around the Alignment of a virtual array. There doesn’t currently appear to be a way to align the array or other non-array objects to the array with the entire array group, only the original object. To work around I can duplicate and flatten the array but it would be nice to have a way to align the dimensions of the entire array and not just the primary instance. For example if I want to center the array in this tool layer box you can see its centering just the primary instance and not the whole array.
Hey Pooch!
You are, unfortunately, 100% right that there’s currently no way to do what you are asking… the virtual portions of the array are just that, virtual, and basically don’t factor into all those other features like alignment. Which, was a decision I made at the time I was writing then feature and then, as is often the case, it got out into the world and all our lovely users completely surpassed our expectations for how the feature would be used - or at least how they expected it should be used.
So, I’m a bit back at the drawing board with this at the moment and rethinking how some of it should/will work.
Mostly likely what will be happening is that there will be some way devised of letting you actually select the virtual array object itself (which is currently not possible, only the items in the array). That would then let you makes sure that the entire array is counted when it comes to things like align, mirror, etc.
In a future release though, you’ll absolutely be able to do what you ask and the virtual part of the array will be much more of a first-class object.
Thanks for the awesome feedback!
