However when I go from top left to top right the second pulse is off slightly. So naturally I move the mirrors to get it spot on. Job done.
I then go bottom left and bottom right - second pulse is slightly off by a few mm… of course I can get that aligned but then the top right will be out again.
Does anyone know what causes this?
Could it be that my mirror 1 to 2 is very slightly misaligned causing the issue?
How are you doing this? It sounds like to me you’re undoing the work in the previous steps by doing this.
If something is off when reviewing then go back to step 1 and ensure that you have both paralellism in the beam as well as the beam being centered. Spot test should overlap at near and far distances for both M1->M2 and M2->M3. M3 itself should be perpendicular to the bed with light travelling straight down the center of the tube and nozzle.
Can you show the results of dot tests for the following scenarios:
1a. M1
2a. M1->M2 near
2b. M1->M2 far
3a. M2->M3 near with Y-axis min
3b. M2->M3 far with Y-axis min
3c. M2->M3 near with Y-axis max
3d. M2->M3 far with Y-axis max
Please make sure that it’s clear where the mirror opening is relative to the material.
Would this simply be due to m1 to m2 mirror being very slightly out?
Basically my first issue was the fact that the corners didn’t cut at all. But I since found out the gantry was out. So basically the top right and bottom right corners were 5mm off the honeycomb to the tip of nose cone. Where as the bottom left and top left were touching it. So I have fixed this.
Haven’t been able to test but with this sort of gap I am going to assume the issue will be fixed. Must of been pulling it well out of focus.
Sorry that’s updated now. Gantry I think, I had to get under and loosen the belt and twist to get them all level.
It’s level according to spirit level and now the correct distance in all 4 corners from honeycomb to laser head.
As I said the top right corner was 5mm above the rest of the others😕
I’m just hoping the corners cut now despite being slightly off as per the pictures. It’s marginal between m1 and m2 - must have spent about 2 hours on it today.
Make sure that gantry is trammed with the rails. Typically when nozzle to bed varies it’s from bed level, not gantry issues. Not doubting you but worth verifying if you haven’t already.
Honestly the variance you see might be enough where the laser doesn’t exit the nozzle. Have you already checked for this?
Sorry got my wording wrong I meant it is the bed that is the issue. Not the honeycomb itself that’s fine and level but the stand it sits on. It has little circular wheels which I’ve torqued up and corrected now.
I’m pretty confident it will make the issue go away.
