If I place the mask and then position the image where I want it to be masked, any attempt at selecting the mask will select the image. The cursor even knows it’s the mask as the icon changes when over it.
The only way I’ve been able to do it is to select the image and then, starting outside the image, drag the second selection range over the image until it captures the mask.
I could probably select the image, hide it and the select the mask, but I’m wondering if there is a simpler way. This same problem crops up when trying to select vectors nested in a fill path. Actually, I guess I can just not overlap them until after I associate them as a mask. Still curious in general about selecting through overlaps.
Check you Click selection tolerance. If it’s too low that can give issue. It’s set in the Settings Menu, Units and Grids. I set mine to 3, which works well for me.
I have the same setting value. It’s not possible to select something that’s over an image. I just turned off the filled setting and will experiment. Seems like that should be a more accessible toggle that always visible.
Change the order of your layers in the cuts/layers window. The lower in the list, the higher in the stack. Top of stack is what the cursor will select.
