I have a low watt laser (4.5) and just starting out. Having trouble carving in Acrylic anyone have a guide or tips? Should the backing be painted? Should it be mask on top and bottom, etc? I see a lot people with much higher wattage lasers and there way’s don’t seem to be helping.

If you’re using a diode laser, you won’t touch clear acrylic because it just passes right through. Marking the surface with paint or a sharpie can help. If you’re trying to engrave colored acrylic, that should be possible.
Even with masking or painting black?
If you can make it absorb enough heat it might work, that’s why I suggested sharpie. People have made that work.
