I’ve been away from the laser for a number of months, at least two digits worth. With a new tube and alignment and all the latest updates to LightBurn, I was hesitant to return, unsure if I could get my act in gear sufficiently to create again.
I should not have been worried.
The updates to LightBurn that I have now experienced include the material test feature and it’s wonderful ! All the guesswork is banished to a single burn project with the answers in black and white, so to speak.
Of course, I had to re-calibrate my LightBurn camera and those results were amazing. In previous versions and operations, I would be lucky to get within 5 mm after making a cut. The calibration is a bit more comprehensive, with more test points, but all of them fell within the minimums. All of them!
The grid is not the slightest bit distorted which means that the camera algorithm is doing a fabulous job of adjusting optically. When I did a cut and updated the overlay, I had to tap the adjust button in Y by one, perhaps one and a half millimeter and it was dead-on.
It had been fun to be able to create things with the laser and that level of enjoyment is easily tripled with the software updates. Many thanks to the LightBurn team. I continue to be amazed each time I fire the stuff up and build things.
Oh, yeah, accidentally hitting the BRB, not noticing it for three days, means so many headaches and doubts that all vanish once that button is corrected.
