Good evening I was wondering if Lightburn has a weld & score function similar the Cuttle software, Alternatively explain a method of achieving this, For example I would like place text name inside a hoop and cut it out but would like to score the beginning and ends of text on the hoop? hope that makes sense? TIA
Not understanding what you’re wanting. Could you provide an example? A picture or drawing of your desired outcome.
As image I wish to cut out the year 2024 but score/engrave the beginning and ends onto the main piece.(in red)
Sure, there is a way to weld the text to the hoop and then outline the overlap so the letter does not disappear.
There are multiple layers available to work with. Set one layer to cut all the way through the material and set the other layer to engrave (not cut all the way through).
Use duplicate shapes and the Boolean tools to isolate those parts that you want to overlap for the second layer.
I imported this from .svg generated on cuttle, blue engrave, red cut, but I do not want to pay monthly fee for something I will not use often

The red layer is a LINE - set it to cut all the way through
The black layer is a FILL - set it to engrave/burn a shallow mark.
I understand the blue engrave & red cut layers what I am struggling with is just getting the overlap on a layer?
Adding to what @JimNM said check if this topic (similar to yours) with step-by-step instructions helps
It is a multi-step process involving GROUP, UNGROUP and my favorite tools, the BOOLEAN functions.
Think of it as a cookie cutter and cookie dough process. Cutouts, overlaps, and welds.

Thanks for the assistance this is where I am at now, created a cut layer with name welded, duplicate layer of name as an engrave
Thanks all 2am here in uk will pick this up tomorrow thanks all for your help
Looks good! The “K” and the “eith” will be attached to the ring - but not supported between themselves. Recycle cardboard from Amazon or USPS priority boxes makes for cheap and easy test material.
Do you understand the difference between left lasso and right lasso for selections? The right to left lasso (green) grabs every thing it touches. The left to right lasso (red) only selects those items it totally contains. Working with cut offs and cut outs, the red lasso (L->R) is very useful
Tim this is brilliant thanks for taking the time to do this for me much appreciated
My thanks to you all for your time and explanation’s, I now understand how to do what I want, great support guys Thankyou
Any time, my laser friend. Pass it on to the next guy if you can.
Here is another tutorial that may help you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HT9UKgsTW0s
