Assigning layers to different lasers

Hello, I have 2 lasers of different power assigned to one computer using the lightburn software. Each of them has different cutting and engraving parameters. Can I somehow permanently assign it to Cuts/Layers? parameters that change after changing from com3 to com4?

It’s not recommended to store settings in layers. Using the materials library is the way.

You can have fully independent instances of LightBurn set for each laser.

That is a good recommendation, and one he should try.

My interpretation of the question though is how can he get the settings to change for the file when opening the same file on different lasers with differing power. The answer there is you can’t, as far as I know. The settings are saved with the file at whatever was in use when saved and it will import with those settings. That is one reason why saving settings in layers is not a good idea.

If you open a file that was created by someone else the settings will change to what was in that file and there may be subtle changes that you don’t notice such as a kerf offset. You will probably notice and change the speed and power to your norms but might miss other details. Whereas if you save settings in the material library, with just a couple clicks every aspect of your layer is loaded.

If I misinterpreted the OP’s question, please correct me.

In addition, it is possible to define a different material library for each laser and these are linked to each laser.

And, if your material libraries have everything in then named and organized the same, and you “Link” the setting to the layer instead of just assigning it, it will automatically change your settings to the appropriate ones for the new device when you pick it.
