I have a Boss Laser 1420 machine with the latest version Light Burn interface. I’m not sure which company (Boss Laser or Light Burn) is responsible for the Auto Home of the axes at power up. If you are not familiar with this ill conceived gem consider yourself very lucky. If you are familiar then you know it should be renamed AUTO CRASH! This time it was another momentary power loss that caused the AUTO CRASH. This machine is so poorly safety power looped that when the power returns it powers up (on it’s own) and AUTO CRASHES. At the very least there should be a power on button/contactor that forces someone to go to the machine to check for any interference first then and only then initiate a power on. Beyond the inconvenience of possible need to realign the lasing head or replace a belt this is a true safety concern as the machine will AUTO CRASH with the door open! This machine is under warranty, when I asked if I were to add a contactor to the power circuit I was told this would void the warranty.
The Boss 1420 uses a Ruida controller and on Ruida the homing is controlled via the vendor settings, enabled per motor axis at the bottom of the “Machine Settings” dialog. It’s not recommended to turn it off, as the machine normally prevents itself from running out of bounds when it’s homed correctly. If you don’t home it, it can’t do that. In general I think it’s expect you would make sure there’s nothing in the machine at startup and if you are having power losses frequently enough for this to be an issue that’s definitely a problem that should be fixed with the hardware or your shop power.
