I recently acquired a bachin laser and i am having zero luck. I have spent the past 4 days rrying to get things set to work. For whatever reason it keeps dropping the connection. On my toshiba laptop running windows 7, it pops up connection failed then will restore within 10-20 seconds. On my surface pro laptop the head just stops responding and even the laser will stay on but nothing moves. Under the console, it shows the machine is still running! Even if i hit stop, it does nothing. I end up having to turn program and laser off, or change the comm port the regain control of the laser. I have changed the USB cord to no avail. At this point i am about to throw it in the trash. Anyone have any ideas? I am literally brand new to laser engraving so my knowledge base is limited to what i have found the last 2 weeks here on the forums.
Things ive tried:
A different computer
A new usb cable
Lowering the baud rate
So here is the controller. I just went through today and tried bonding everything together, however, i was unable to test after i completed that.
As for the console, it shows nothing, well, it shows âstream startedâ and then nothing. If i am using the surface pro, the laser head will stop moving but the laser itself stays on and will burn whatever underneath it, the console doesnt change. If i click pause or stop it will read busy and then wont do anything. Ive never had aby special characters pop up on the console window.
I did download the driver, it was the only way i could control it with the surface. I did not need it for the toshiba laptop. Another odd thing i noticed was on the surface, laser mode is turned off in grbl and i have to go and toggle it on as well. Im sure that probably sounds ânormalâ to those who have more experience than i.
So on initial startup this morning to try and run a test after bonding, the laser would not connect. I got the very long stream of strange characters in the console window. I deleted the device and added it again and its working as of now, but i do not know yet if it will complete the pattern. I will follow up once i know.
Not really. Iâm not certain what is going on with Surface / Surface Pro USB communication but Iâll probably pick one up and begin to tinker.
I have the same controller on my Bachin maker.
Yes, $32 Laser Mode, Looking at their old website some of the tools were pen-lift writing tools so I could see how laser mode might have been less common default setting for them.
Mine didnât have homing / limit switches when I first got it. Assuming yours is the same and it doesnât have a âHome on Startupâ command set - you can unplug both stepper motors at the controller and test to see if the communication issues resolve.
If the power supply is weak, the power supply can get more noisy as the electrical loads (or motor loads) increase. EM noise and power supply noise are common causes for communications to drop. Removing the motor loads removes the motion which in turn removes the risk of static electricity from the movement and contact of dissimilar materials.
When you arrive at steady communication, the next step is to Request the System Information report and the Machine Settings.
When youâre ready, open the Console window in LightBurn and type the following:
$i
$$
Pressing enter after each request.
Please copy and paste both of those into a reply here.
So i ended up bonding the machine and able to run it after i got off shift yesterday morning. To my surprise, it ran all the way through! It stayed powered and never once lost connection through the 2.5hr burn. I believe that is what my problem ended up being
