Okay so first a big thanks to everyone who jumped in here. A couple of things:
I notice from the Lightburn video that there are still light overlap marks on the tumbler being engraved. That tells me that is acceptable in this context of tumblers, and “marking” promotional items.
I’m not doing number 1
The depth of focus answer is the most relevant to my situation as I had a complete misunderstanding of what/why split size needs to be one thing or the other. This made me realize that i was going about this all wrong based on that misunderstanding. I knew that engraving whole shapes was an option but incorrectly assumed I needed to solve this banding.
For what I’m doing I can just use a MUCH larger split size (or whole shapes) that covers the size of individual shapes within the overall pattern. I was going in the wrong direction because of my lack of understanding of how wide the “focus” field actually was. I assumed smaller was necessary.
So in general the widening of the split size solves my issues with what I’m engraving.

This is a common misconception. I learned this very well when changing from a short compound lens to a 4" lens on the co2. Most people state it’s a v-shaped that has one point of concentration, but lenses don’t work that way. The only thing odd about these lenses is they are F-Theta or flat focus lenses.
I’ve done numerous items and I’ve never found that I needed an overlap value. These are lens tubes for my co2, I marked with the fiber.
A larger split size should give you a substantial gain in speed. On my older V1.7 of Lightburn, I know that Lightburn sends the codes, but Lightburn gets control returned to it to handle split size, actually to handle the rotary. So a smaller split size means it has to wait for Lightburn to complete then control is returned to it.
I agree with @Albroswift about not using crosshatch. I’ve tried it a few times and don’t find if particularly useful, especially with a rotary. He has a good background and knows about fiber machines, so don’t sell him short.
You have your interval set to 0.010mm (2540dpi) which is pretty small. Fiber machines are a bit different as we generally use an interval that allows the spot to move to an unscaned area. So, the interval is around the same size as the devices spot size. Yours is about 60 microns and you are stepping by 10 microns? You are covering the same area about 6 times.
Sometimes we do this on a fiber machine for specific purposes. I can’t see what you’re doing needs this, but, I don’t know, you have to decide.
Thanks, I had turned the hatch off a couple attempts ago so thats all good as well. I appreciate the new info as weel and i’ll make that change, I’m all for speeding up the engraving process
