Best method to add tolerance?

Hey all,

Trying to get comfortable with MM. This is a project I’ve built before in other programs.

Trying to figure out how I would insert tolerance for this part? Its a puzzle piece design so the parts “A” and “B” need to mesh together, inside of another shape. If I offset the squiggle line the arrow is pointing to, it goes all the way around the line. Would negative stock to leave make that happen instead?

If I’m understanding you correctly? You can do a little offset (ex: 0.5mm) then with the Trim Shapes tool remove the exceeded parts

to get 2 independent paths with very little distance between them.

Oh dang! Yes! I think that would work well. Didn’t realize the trim tool would snap to the line like that. Thanks!

I use offset quite a bit with good success, have you experimented with offset corner style?

I did. A little at least. I think because it was just a line it wasn’t behaving like I expected. Which is not MM’s fault. I was expecting behavior like Onshape where you can can offset basically just a duplicate of the line on one side vs going all the way around the line.

I’ve now grasped what you are saying….the idea from parsec FerAS looks like a good workaround.

Not forgetting the final trimming then close the paths.

Yep good call. Totally would have forgotten that!
