Best way to cut or close a open svg file

ChaliceandCrossCakeTopperV2

Trying to remove the stake on this cake topper. What would be the best option to do that? Tried searching online but was not able to figure our a solution.

Thanks

I’ll offer two solutions that in this case are about equally good:

  1. Use Boolean Tools to remove the section of the topper you don’t want.
Combining Shapes: Weld, Cut Shapes, & Boolean Modifiers - LightBurn Documentation (lightburnsoftware.com)
  2. Use Edit Nodes tool to remove the nodes that make up the stake.
Edit Node Tool - LightBurn Documentation (lightburnsoftware.com)

Using node editing tool, select all of the nodes in the stake and press D to delete.

Try that Rob, but it deleted the whole thing. Not sure Im doing it right I see purple squares and can click on one square and it will turn red but when I click delete the whole thing gets deleted.

Boolean tool is grayed out, not sure how to get it to light up? I’ve ungrouped the file and grouped it and made no difference.

Node edit tool, hover over the nodes at the corners of the stake, press B to break each one then you can go through and delete the segments of the stake by hovering over them and pressing D. Then drag one of the nodes you broke over until it connects with the other to close it up.

Yeah I’m not sure what the heck I’m doing lol, I pull the node and it just flex like a noodle! Here is my file if you can do it for me!!

Did you read through the documentation about how it works?

Perhaps some videos would work better:

I’m not going to do it and provide you a finished product, no. But I will show you the steps I explained above.

B over a node to break the node
D over a node or segment to delete it
Drag one node over the top of the other (hold Alt to make this easier) and it will snap closed.
Done

Or another way using boolean operators. It’s good to know multiple methods.

Got it!!! Thank you very much!!

It most likely happened because everything was grouped.
I have attached a video of it being done the way I recommended. Forgive the poor production quality.

Just remember to press D to delete.

Varies by situation, but I very often do as Robert suggests.

Drag a fence around the undesired nodes and press D. This leaves the path closed and even on curved segments often just requires a quick drag adjustment to repair the curvature.
