Bit Going too Deep When Starting

I’m new to CNC machines, so please bear with me. It is starting it correct XY position, but bit goes like 1/4" into wood. Here is what I have.

I have Probed bit on Z axis.
Set Z to 0 where bit is paper thickness from wood.

Stock Thickness (Z): 19.5 mm
Operations settings are:
Starting Depth of .00000 in
Final Depth: .17000 in
Depth Per Pass: .04500 in

Any advice on what else I can check. I must be missing something.

Two options:

  1. Screen capture (SHFT+WinKey+S) the Operation settings window (like below) ahd add it to a Reply. Also write or capture the Machine and Workpiece numbers from the Move Window when you Home the machine.
  2. Even better, add your MillMage file (.mage) to a Reply. That way we can see everything.

Could you share your .mage file, so we can take a look?

Thank you do much for taking a look at this. Hope this is what you are asking for.

Blanton’s Base.mage (44.0 KB)

Not sure where you got your expected numbers, but they do not match your program.

Everything was set to Metric, but I do not know if it was your settings or mine. But this is what I got when switching to Imperial in both Settings and Device Settings.

Now that is weird. With both Setting and Device Setting set to Imperial this is what I’m showing.

Looks correct on mine. This is with RC7.

Thanks for verifying my setting are showing correctly. I think there something messed up in my probing. I removed the stock and ran job. The bit went all the way down to surface board. When running the job, I always aborted the job when bit didn’t start at stock surface.

What is the machine you’re working with? Does it have a tool length touchoff sensor (not a part location touchoff block), or a toolchanger?
