Boolean tool understanding

I have created a rattan weave pattern I would like to use as a fill for some empty space. It would be an etch and not a cut-out. The attached file has the rattan pattern I created and the space I’d like to fill. I’ve tried making this work and clearly I’m missing something but because of a time commitment I’m reaching out to see if it’s possible or not, and if so the steps to make it happen, short of node-editing the life out of it which wouldn’t be fun.

Anything like this?

The Cut Shapes Tool is the way to go for this.

Just make sure to duplicate (CTRL/CMD + D) the outline of the space you want to fill before using it as the cutting shape, if you want to keep that outline afterward.
