I use the T1 & T2 layers quite a bit for reference geometry, but have noticed a bug when using the laser framing function buttons (see below screen shot)…
With T1 layer ‘Frame’ option turned ON and using Square framing, the laser seems to be sent on a path that will actually ignore the T1 frame. However I have been getting around this for now by using Circular framing which seems to follow the correct path.
I cant remember if the same is true for T2 but will do some more testing and update this post. For now I just wanted to see if anyone had noticed this, or if it is already a known bug to the brilliant software peeps at Lightburn?
I for one can’t agree with others who say the T1 & T2 layers are not useful for much and so do not require need a framing option. Quite the opposite in fact… for me they are extremely useful for setting out around jigs etc. and making sure alignment is correct.
So, I hope Lightburn opt to fix and keep this option… if others don’t value the additional functionality then they can simply opt not to use it, but it makes zero sense to pull a useful feature from the rest of us who do use it!
It also reflects my opinion on the subject. Unfortunately, there are some users who have not “understood” the meaning of T1 and T2 as “construction help lines”. The documentation describes the subject very nicely and precis. Used in the way that Toollayers are intended for then T1 and T2 work perfectly and is used very often …( in my lb construction and design work)
Spot on. I can only read this to mean that Lightburn developers did indeed intend it to be utilised for the purposes I had assumed…including the use of these tool layers for framing (movement only) of the laser head.
As such, the behaviour I describe in my original post would constitute a bug; one that hopefully gets picked up and fixed in a coming release.
I think that it is not meant that T1 and T2 can frame and I think that the button in the layer control is a forgotten mistake that should have been removed long ago, or in other words, since this uncertainty or interpretation difference of T1 and T2 usability has been discussed (also in older posts)
On the other hand, I will not be unhappy if @LightBurn decides to add a function to the already existing trace button …I personally do not miss this function, there are 29 other layers I can frame with.
