Please, I need some help. I am trying to burn a sign but the words are coming out wider than my work piece. The work piece is 12"x12". The longest word is 10" long. Even starting at the very bottom left edge as my xy zero the word goes off the right edge by an inch or more. I checked to make sure every thing is set to inches. On the upper tool bar I set the width and height to 10". Not sure where to go from here.
Please provide 3 things to help identify the issue:
- photos of what youâre seeing on the work product
- attach the .lbrn file here
- output of $$ in console
I will get those items to you today. It will be a couple of hours before I can get out to my garage though.
Duane
Hope this is what you needed.

One picture is the xy zero the other one is what is going on. Sorry itâs so light but look at the top left and you can see the âTâ where it is burning into the chip board. At the upper right you can see the start of the âSâ. Like I said this is on a piece of 12"x12"x1/4" plywood. The letters are are way bigger then called in the design. I think! :))
Will take a closer look when I get a chance but noticed you included the SVG file, not the .lbrn file. Can you attach the actual LightBurn project file?
Dumb question here but where would that reside. I did a search for *.lbrn and thatâs what came up.
I just remembered I import this from Easel. Maybe need to make a new one in LightBurn. Could that be my problem?
Not sure if thereâs a default location for files. Try going to File->Recent Projects. That should show you the path to the file.
That could affect your understanding of the actual size if the DPI settings were different. First thing to confirm is what dimensions were understood within LightBurn to see if it matches the burn dimensions.
Here is the Common Grbl Setup for you to perform. You should also visit the Coordinate and Job Origin documentation.
This was the first thing I saw⌠As per the docs:
âYou might need to adjust your spindle max RPM value ($30
) to match the LightBurn default (1000) or vice versa. The value in LightBurn is called âS-Value Maxâ, in the Device Settings.â
Itâs pretty clear from your configuration you did not go through the needed setup procedures. Since some of your setting are NOT what is recommended by Lightburn grbl setup.
Pretty doubtful your machine size is 200x200x200 which is max travel for X, Y and Z axes.
Good luck
Here is new data. As you can see the letters and word are much bigger that what the file says what they should be.

can you do a simple test?
thake a ruler, place the 0 of the ruler near the laser head, move the laser head, with LB move panel, by 50 mm or inches in X or Y, as you like, then look at the ruler and tell us if the distance is correct.
$13 is âfeedback unitsâ - Sets position feedback units from mm to inches. $13=1 for inches or $13=0 for mm
Your machine still isnât configured properly. But most of the âcheckingâ is turned off⌠May be standard for your machineâŚ
Yes I can do that but not until tomorrow, if it doesnât snow to much tonight!
Roberto,
I set the laser to move 4" and in actually moved 5 1/4".
@Jayhawk714 ok in LB in machine settings there is a button called âcalibrate axisâ, go there and tell me if there in something you donât understand
not there, in âmachine settingsâ
Sorry about that! I take it I input the measurements that I gave you for the x axis and then measure the y axis and put those in?

just one thing⌠pay attention cause in firmware setting we talk about step/mm, not step/inc, so watch out for the measures you take
I suggest you take a backup of your configuration if you havenât already done so.
