I just received my camera for lightburn. I’m wanting to add one after seeing several people use the camera to use up places in scrap material. I have a Sculpfun s30 with the expansion kit. It was advertised as 935mm x 905mm. I’m not sure if that is the working area or the length and witdth of the frame. I first mounted the camera at 16 inches from the bed. Until I can get the funds to get me a 800mm x 800mm honeycomb bed, im using my honeycomb bed I used when I had factory frame for Sculpfun s30. I think it’s around 16” square. Camera is picking up just the honeycomb bed nothing else. With the expansion kit, what height do I need to mount it to be able to view the whole working area. I haven’t been able to find any info on it if there was a formula to go by. Thanks in advanced.
If you enter the bed dimensions into the “Camera Selection Helper”, it will return a minimum mounting height needed to position the camera so it can cover the whole bed:
Read this guide:
It shows how to use a camera with your Sculpfun. Though, it is NOT recommended to use a camera with the full workspace. You would need a different camera (very high resolution) and it should be around 1-2 meters above the workspace to have best precision.
It’s much better to use the camera for a 400x400 portion of the workspace and not cover the rest. It doesn’t make sense anyhow, at maximum sizes, the camera won’t help you much.
Nice guide, and good point about not necessarily needing to see the whole bed with the camera, it makes good sense to set up the camera to cover a smaller area at a better resolution since most jobs are usually small.
