I am using a “Falcon2 Pro” laser which I received used from a friend. The camera remains in status: "connecting” but never connects. I switched the USB ports several times. The camera works perfectly on the pc with windows 11 installed. I disabled all apps that use the camera function on pc without success. Seems like lightburn does no recognize the camera. Any ideas? Thanks for support!
Cameras and LB have been problematic over the years; it sure has
wasted a considerable amount of my life.
Prior to 2.1. it was stable and I was able to get something done.
anyway, I have 2.1.03 now and sure enough, no camera.
So again, I struggled and wasted more of my life trying to get something
done in LB. Remind you, no problems until the update, so I decided to try the “camera” app on windows (10p), and the damn thing won’t work because it needs permission to share the microphone!
WTH? I have no microphone, so why does this matter? (insert long M$ bs excuse here)
ANYWAY, I enabled the microphone for the camera and things work now.
WHY was the camera working okay before 2.1 and not after?
were there changes done in LB?
or is this another example of M$ changing stuff without saying anything to either 1. help me or, 2. protect me?
I hope this tidbit of info helps someone not waste part of their life needlessly.
Yes, LightBurn version 2.1 introduced an entirely new camera system.
Are you saying you enabled microphone access for the Windows Camera app, and now you can connect the camera in LightBurn?
At least, on my Windows 11 machine, Microphone- and Camera access in the “Privacy & Security” settings are separate and I can use the camera in LightBurn without needing to enable microphone access.
The camera app can also record audio, so it’s to be expected that it needs access to both the camera and microphone.
What I wrote is what happened. Prior to that, adding a camera to 2.1 would show the camera, but always waiting to connect and/or camera disconnected. (fwiw, it is a Lightburn Camera, being used since at least v1.2.00)
So either a change in LB kicked off the change in windows,
or an “update” to Win 10p caused the change (and not a lot of updating being done to w10 anymore); pick one, as it was working up until the 2.1 update.
So, you were able to calibrate the lens with the printed AprilTags card? That would confirm that the camera is working and the permissions are correct.
If possible, send us a screenshot of the entire LightBurn window, including the Camera window and the exact version you are using.
This is only meant to be used on specific cameras which have the distortion precalibrated from the factory. You will need to calibrate this camera with the AprilTags to correct the bulged image before performing the alignment.
What was working yesterday (lightburn camera on windows 10p) is now NOT working.
Lghtburn said I needed to add a camera. Camera tab shows “waiting for connection” (~)
nothing.
so I started up the “camera” app on windows 10p, and I saw video from the camera for a few seconds, and then it went dark. camera doesnt show up in devices or anything. Dragged my laptop out to my shop and nothing there as well. tried direct to the computers, and via two different powered usb hubs. not even a usb device connected sound from the OS… then I discovered that the usb hub wasn’t showing a device connected.. so I pulled the camera out of my laser and into my office and connected it to a Linux computer, and the damn thing is working like it’s supposed to.
SO, back to my laptop, connected it up, and the camera was recognized and working in Camera.
then I’ve tried the wiggle of every inch of the cable, looking for an intermittant/broken wire, no issues.
took it back out to my shop/laser, plugged it in and worked right away.
any recommendations? the only thing I can think of is some issue on the camera board?
I only have so much time to operate my laser, and it seems that troubleshooting issues and that damn camera eats that time up.
(cue the ‘aint nobody got no time fo that’ meme)
Are you using the camera to laser onto a specific object? If you don’t have time to figure out why your laptop’s USB camera connection is poor, I recommend using a jig instead.
Do you have a product link for the specific camera you’re using?
I think it’s your camera, the firmware gets confused by something Windows asks it to do (usually about picking video format/resolution), and it just freezes up, not just the app, the whole USB connection dies. Linux asks the same kind of questions but is more lenient about sloppy answers, so it doesn’t trip the same bug.
Once the camera’s firmware locks up, it stops talking on the USB bus entirely, that’s why it disappeared from Device Manager and why the hub didn’t even register something plugged in. It’s not a driver or app problem on your end, it’s the camera itself hanging.
Launch LightBurn, make sure you connect the correct device profile/COM port, then provide a screenshot of what you have in the camera window so we help you from there, if you have the time…
