Can I change the power output of just x or y axis. Y is stronger now

Hi all, I have been using a Ray5 10w w/air for a while and recently purchased a 20w w/800 x 800 frame it seems to run hotter by a lot on the y axis. I have changed the acceleration values thinking the larger gantry may be causing this but it had no effect. I’m making boxes and the y sides of the fingers are being over burned trying to cut the x side of the same finger. Is there a setting in lightburn to calibrate these two outputs? I’m having no luck getting any help from longer. No response to any contact I try.

I have used different pieces and turned the grain the opposite way. This is 3mm basswood but the same results on 5mm birch ply. Please help! Dan

That’s common with diode lasers, because no matter what the manufacturer claims the focused dot is rectangular / oval. In your machine, it’s apparently oriented with the long axis parallel to the Y axis.

You can get a good idea of what the spot looks like by projecting it on a nearby wall:

Pay attention to the safety notes!

I have been asking for help with this for weeks. Thank you! That is the first answer that makes perfect sense now I know my limitations and can move on and deal with the work arounds. Probably mostly focus. Maybe refocus in between passes on thicker cuts. Anyway it’s a lot of fun!
Cheers, Dan
