I have a OneFinity CNC with a lasertree K60 diode laser. I’m looking into doing some simple laser engraving text on a cylindrical water bottle. In lieu of a rotary axis, i’m wondering if it’s possible to use lightburn to adjust the z-height during the job.
Of course, I realize at the extremes the laser angle would not be 90 degrees, but for larger surfaces or smaller text on a curve that might be acceptable. Is there a setting to achieve this in LightBurn?
Not really. You could split the project into multiple levels, put them on different layers and use different heights for those layers. Then you have at least kind of this effect. Though it will be much work depending on the project contents.
Thanks. I’m using a blue diode lasertree k60, so as far as I know there aren’t other oem lens options available. I also suspect I could be overthinking this, and I should just proceed with testing, and keep my engraving text height limited, and maybe set the focus at the midpoint between the highest and lowest z-height.
I did consider that, but I think i’d rather have a consistent transition from focus to slightly defocused rather than steps. (and because that sounds like too much work!)
A cool feature might be to mathematically adjust z based on the x or y value.
