Centering on a square or rectangular object

Hi there, I’m trying to cut a specific object but it has to be dead center. What I’m trying to do is cutting a window frame so that I can stick a picture. In lightburn I created a rectangular with the size of my material and inside of it I create the size of my window frame. I allign both to be center and now I have to tell my machine to find also the center of the material.
Now I tried to use the option “Center point” but I was getting all the errors
->Not enough separation between points
→ Unable to Calculate Center.
Then I tried the Use origin option it kinda worked but I was off for couple points. Also Is there an option to enable laser beam so I know exactly where it cuts? or is laser specific option this?
I’m using the AlgoLaser Delta 440 x 415
Thanks in advanced.

Congrats and welcome, glad you found Lightburn and this forum.

Device Settings Window (Wrench & Screwdriver Icon) Set power to .5% to 1%, just enough so you can see it withoud damaging your workpiece.

I did that but still have an issue on how to find the center of my rectangular object. Why is there an option only for circle and not for anyother sizes?

On rectangular objects I use measurements of the item and absolute coordinates. I have an L shaped fence placed at the 0,0 coordinates and place any items against the fence and place my design there as well in Lightburn. Since it sounds like you don’t have that type of setup, what you can do is make a frame the exact shape and size of your workpiece. Center your design in the frame in lightburn.

Then you have a couple options of how to handle it. You can use the frame to burn a line on cardboard or other substrate as a guide for placing your workpiece. You need to be in absolute coordinates or user origin for repeatability, and ensure that the cardboard doesn’t move in relation to the laser.

Or, you can use the outline in conjunction with the frame command and nudge your workpiece to fit the frame. Turning on Frame Continuously is beneficial here.

There are - as always - many ways …
Create a circle with 0.1 mm diameter
Mark your rectangle and the “mini”-circle, press C, press E
the circle shows the desired center

you can also use a square, also trace the two diagonals of your piece of wood with a criterion, the fire button is still very practical and effective, a lightburn camera greatly helps.
