Centering text within a shape

I found a small annoyance with Lightburn (or maybe I am doing it wrong??) I make a shape (a circle or rectangle) and I put some text inside it and centre the text on the centre of the shape (the text is set as middle, middle in Lightburn). So far so good, BUT if I then change the size of the text, it moves from centre and I need to go back and re-centre it on the shape again. This is not how other design packages I have used work - If your text is centred on a shape and you change the size or font, the new text is remains centred on the shape. Is there a setting I can change to make Lightburn behave like this? Or am I just doing out wrong???

Next to the size properties in the top bar is a field with nine dots. Those define the origin of the change. Choose the middle dot to make the text stay in the middle.

So LightBurn is even more flexible than the other tools

That doesn’t help - I already have the centre dot selected. I’m using Lightburn 1.7.08 on a MacBook running Ventura 13.7.8 (and am too afraid to upgrade to version 2 as yet!!) Have I found a bug??

Iā€˜m not at a pc to test it, but how did you change the text size? Via the text controls or the size controls of the screenshot above?

I just did a test in a new file. Centre dot selected. I drew a circle and put a text word in it. I then centred the text on the circle by typing in the co-ordinates of the circle centre (as reported in the Xpos & Ypos boxes). I then used the Height box for text to increase the text size from 9 to 16.50. The text is no longer centred on the circle. It’s off by nearly 2mm on the Y position and 0.62mm on the X position.

Using the Size box.

I mean the Text Height box - I didn’t type in the size in the normal height & width boxes.

Using the Width & Height boxes (with the lock on) is better. The Xpos stayed correct, the Ypos changed by .001mm.

It seems like it only happens to text, shapes that are centered keep their center position, I don’t think (LB) people are aware of that

I think the .001mm is a rounding error. So using this, it stays centered, I’d say.

It appears to be a bug with setting the text size using the Height box next to the Font name box. Using the normal Height & Width boxes seems to work (with a slight rounding error that probably doesn’t matter much). How do we report a bug to Lightburn???

It is normally caught by the LB people here. If it is in a beta version an error is found, there is the Beta category itself where you can report it.
It is also possible that there will be a ā€œlogicalā€ explanation for what was observed.
