Hi everyone.
This is my first question on the site.
I’ve been looking for solutions but haven’t gotten close yet.
I want to change my visual workspace in Lightburn. I have some fixtures mounted that I’ve drawn in. Can’t I make them stay in the same place when I open the program? I don’t want to always have to open a template before I start a project. It would be great if they could be fixed there as part of my grid.
Aka a Custom Bed Image
There are a few options;
A) Start LightBurn, ‘Open’ the template project. You will just need to use ‘Save As’ to give it a new name so you don’t change the template.
B) Start LightBurn by double clicking on your project file that is your template, faster than (A), but you will still need to use ‘Save As’ to start your new project so you don’t change the template.
C) Start a brand new project, ‘Import’ your project file that is the template, this is probably better than both A&B because you can’t overwrite your template project.
D) I believe the upcoming v2.1 will bring some changes in this area, and I think the closest approximation to the behavior you are after would be to start LightBurn by double-clicking on your template file, which will open immediately as a new project with your template applied already.
Thank you very much for your answer. I hope this is something that will come in the next update. because the methods you have explained I have used over the last 6 months, and the risk of human error is too great.
My take on the task is:
Draw the template that you want on frame layer.
Draw a rectangle that completely fills the work area on the frame layer
Group template and large frame together.
Save to your art library
Open new project
Import template from your art library
use the MOVE TO LOWER LEFT hot button to index the entire template to the exact same place every time.
You can do that too. But I still don’t think it’s a proper solution. I’d rather have a graphic layer that I can never touch or move. So I hope it comes with the next update.
You can lock all content, or just what you choose, of your template or any other file in LB. With that you can redefine your template file to start LightBurn. When you are finished with what you need to do in LB, you still have to (always) save the new project with a new name, so no detour here.
The part I did not say out loud was… as an art library item, you can add it to any workspace at any time. You don’t have to open extra files or copy paste between workspaces.
I am all about getting good results, no matter the format that they come by.
Good luck to ya ![]()
