Clean picture in picture engraving mode

Is there a way to engrave clean “picture in picture”, like multiple “clean” pictures on a single larger picture background?
Say, if I have one layer of big mountain picture as a background, and another layer or layers of many smaller pictures and want them inserted clean? That is, can I make LightBurn to engrave background image only on empty space between other pictures?
That could have be done, for example, by prioritizing layers, and electing that each consecutive layer engraves only on empty parts from previous layers, but I can not find a usable functionality to do this.
Is here a form of easy masking available? That would, of course, mainly be used for engraving and at user’s discretion.

I suspect what you’re looking for is going to be better done outside of LightBurn based on your description. Having said that, 2 things you should look at:

  1. If you stack or overlap 2 images in LightBurn that are on the same layer, the image at top will take priority and any portion underneath will not be burned (unless you have an alpha channel set for that image).
  2. You can use Tools->Apply mask to image if you want to use a shape in LightBurn to mask a given image.

Yes, thank you! That is indeed better than nothing.
However, it is still impossible to work on layers independently, say burn pictures first and then add a background, or enhance or modify the background, burn after burn iteratively, without touching the already engraved pictures, but it is indeed better than nothing.
Ability to set layer priority and then specify that next priority layers engrave only on space that is not occupied by higher priority layers would still be a welcome future development.
As to the masking option, it is very uncomfortable and cumbersome. You can not trace multiple images at once, it is difficult to construct masks etc. Layer priority burning, similar to option one, would be much better.
But once again - thank you!
