Got a brand new Cloud Ray CR6040 (CR2416) -A delivered today. There appears to be some damage to the top of the laser, however, electronics appear intact. It is not currently homing or framing correctly despite resetting all settings to factory reset. Thinking I need a config file? Anyone have a generic config file that might be helpful?? Would be so grateful!
This can be problematic. Sometimes the factory reset refers to the factory that the controller came from, not the factory that installed the controller. Depending on which factory reset was applied it could be fine, or it could be a fully blank slate ready for the assembly plant.
A picture of the controller (inside the engraver) would be welcome and very helpful. Please drag and drop a picture of that controller into a reply here.
Does Lightburn connect to the laser Engraver?
Are you currently using the Free Trial?
Do you have other laser engravers?
This is why warranties exist: start the return process for that machine now.
If the box was damaged, it’s a claim against the shipping company.
If the laser was so poorly packed that it was damaged during shipping, it’s the seller’s problem.
however, electronics appear intact
A laser is a fairly delicate chunk of machinery that depends on precise mechanical alignment.
If the machine was damaged in any way, you’re unlikely to have the tools / instruments / expertise required to realign whatever is now bent out of shape.
Hello John, thanks for your reply.
We used the laser controller to reset to Factory Para (image included in folder)
Then we plugged the laser into a windows machine and used RDWorks (detects just fine) to restore from the usb drive included with the laser.
- It’s triggering limit boundaries and trying to go past the boundaries
- It will home and then hit limit boundaries
- It’s not framing correctly in lightburn
- At one point the XY axis were inverted - sometimes it reverts to being inverted
Yes, lightburn does connect to the laser - I have the paid subscription. I have both a diode and CO2 license.
Yes, I have a diode laser that has never given me any problems aside from taking forever to cut. This was an upgrade purchase for me.
I took several photos and a couple videos to explain further -

Hello Ed,
Thanks for your response. Contacting customer service was the first thing I did, but I was hoping to salvage the situation.
Given that the machine does not operate properly right out of the box, there’s more wrong than a customer should (be expected to) fix.
Now, if they refuse to solve the problem, then you’re deep into DIY salvage mode, but don’t start until it’s the least-awful way to proceed.
