Connecting issue

I have a 5W COMGROW laser and it works fine with LaserGRBL but when I try to use it in lightburn all I get is Waiting for connection and never connects, I have uninstalled and installed lightburn a couple of times and still nothing happens this is the steps I have taken, I am using a PC running Windows. The only device is this 5w and the only Com is COM12. I dont know what to do next.

Click Create Manually

  1. Select GRBL

  2. Select Serial/USB

  3. Select Next

  4. Use 400mm and 400mm for the work area

  5. Select Next

  6. Select Front Left

  7. Select Next

  8. Select Finish
    Device now shows up pane

  9. Select the GRBL device, click Ok

It may still be connected to LaserGRBL. A serial device can only be connected to one software at a time. Turn off the laser, restart your computer, Do NOT open LaserGRBL, open Lightburn and see if it will connect. Oh, and you have to turn the laser back on too.

Good Morning, I downloaded lightburn on a laptop that the laser has never been hooked up to and never had lightburn on it and it says ready but under Console in lightburn it says waiting for connection, Please see the picture, The laser was off all night and like I said the laptop has never had lightburn or this laser hooked to it before. Not sure what a TF Card is but it doesn’t exist.

Hey Ed,
I just replied to your separate support ticket with the same answer as Tim.

Thank’s again for providing all the details needed to help.

A TF card would be an SD card.

It’s not entirely clear if this message is actually coming from the Comgrow laser, or another serial device attached to your computer.

Try another COM port if you see one in this drop down:

Good Morning, Could you please check out the reply I did to Tim, Even if I used a laptop that the laser was never hooked to and just downloaded lightburn on would the laser still think its hooked to LaserGRBL? if so I would I fix that?

No, the laser generally does not “think” at all

So if you ensured that LaserGRBL is closed, you should see the correct COM port to select in LightBurn.

There is only 2 ports on the laptop so I switched it to the other port and this is what I got. Same thing

LaserGRBL is not open at all, You think I need to restart the laptop after I installed lightburn?

Does the COM3 port disappear in LightBurn if you unplug the laser?

If it doesn’t, it’s not the correct port, and you might be missing a USB driver.
Get them from here:

While my laptop is restarting I tried it again on my PC and when I unplug the cord from the port it disappears and when I plug it back in the port shows back up, But it still says Waiting for connection

On the laptop when I unplug the cord from the port the Com stays there until I click the down arrow next to it and then it dissapers,

Great. That means, it’s the correct port.

Did you already try the Find My Laser feature when adding the laser? - Not every device can be detected this way, and it might have been necessary to add it manually like you did before.

Try this please:
Open the Windows Device Manager and look for the Comgrow under Ports (COM & LPT)
Right click the device and select “Uninstall device”

After that, install this CH340 driver file. (Found on the Comgrow / Sovol support page)

It’s best to restart the computer and try to connect in LightBurn again.

I will try that but I am walking into a meeting right now but will let you know how it turns out later ,
