Project stays busy in console although cut/engrave, frame completes and laser returns back to home. This is causing system to lock up and force a hard boot. Machine Edit window goes blank also. Looks like some electrons are pissed off about something.
Did you setup your laser as plain GRBL?
Yes. Have not had a problem until I installed an extension kit. Longer is useless on their customer service. If I us the offline controller for my unit I don’t see an issue. Sample engravings work per the SD card furnished. Loaded a backup of Lightburn in my preferred file prior to any issues and still no help.I’m thinking downloading a whole new lightburn software but not sure how to go about doing that
Reloading Lightburn rarely solcves anything. Let’s see some basic info about your system.
In the console window of Lightburn type $$ then press enter. Copy & paste the output here. Also, post a screenshot (not a cell phone pic) of your entire Lightburn screen with your project loaded and the Cuts/Layers Panel and Laser Panel visible. Also post a screenshot of the Settings Window (Gears icon) with the Units and Grids tab visible and post a screenshot of the Device Settings Window (Wrench and Screwdriver icon).

You will notice in the project screenshot that the progress bar is still busy although I only framed it twice…than locks up. When this occurs the Material Settings window goes blank with “: communication failed”
this occurs when it locks up…
Appreciate any input because I’m at a loss here. I ordered another main board for my laser (not received yet) thinking maybe the USB port bad.
Just for kicks, uncheck return to finish position and see if it makes any difference.
It appears to me that your settings are correct. At least nothing jumps out at me.
Thanks for the assist Tim. No change with the return to finish. Still in the process of elimination…I have upgraded Lightburn and waiting on a response back from Longer on the firmware update…got to the end of the steps and got confused with the final step. After that install new main board and there’s nothing left.
Try disabling DTR and GCode Clustering.
Found it to be a bad USB port on my laser controller…Process of elimination. Learned not to piss off those electrons. All back to normal. Thanks for the assist
