I am in my trial of this software and likely will buy it. Having issue though getting things to work properly.
If I set constant power mode on for a layer it prints at that power. However, if i turn that off, it only “prints” at lowest power of laser which means i get no burning (can stick piece of newspaper in beam and doesnt even do anything). I’ve tried all the things i could find on this forum and elsewhere with no luck. Machine settings are below. Board is MKS DLC v2.1 and laser is NEJE 7W. Thanks
I’m assuming this is not the file you were referencing when you described the original problem. One thing I’m noticing is that the speeds shown are very fast for a diode laser, by at least 10x.
You mentioned that you tested this with a newspaper. How did you do that?
Can you check the value of S Value Max in your Device settings? It should be 1000 to match your grbl config of $30.
It was the speed. I do a lot of 3d printing and the speed I had to drop this to compared to that just seemed crazy slow. I had wrongly assumed this would be faster. It’s working right. Thanks!
What kind of 3D printer are you used to working with? Your laser should be going easily as fast as a typical cartesian printer and should be able to go many times faster depending on the operation.
What speed did you end up having to set for the laser to work?
EDIT:
Had to make a correction after reworking some of the math. I think diode lasers are typically going in the same range as a typical cartesian printer but often several times slower depending on operation. For example, a typical 3d printing speed is around 35 mm/s (2100 mm/min). That would be on the higher end of speeds for engraving. A cutting operation could easily be in the 3 mm/s (200 mm/min) range.
