When I look into the crystal ball, I see a mechanical problem; but you have to check step by step to exclude any other possibility

Did you have rotary mode enabled when you lasered the squished ‘East’?
If the preview window does not show the distortion, you may need to perform some maintenance:
Rotary is not enabled. The laser is new but was working last week. So idk what happened.
I checked all the belts, everything is clean.
Did you also check the grub screws
Had similar problems with my laser, which could only be solved by completely disassembling and reassembling. It also seemed to me that the cables were guided in rigid tubes that only became flexible after some use.
If everything looks fine in the preview window, it can only be a mechanical problem. This forum often recommends replacing the USB cable with a good one.
