"Cut Shapes" Tool no longer sealing cuts?

Hello! The last time I used ‘cut shapes’ was about 6 months ago, when I used it extensively for a project involving text over a graphical background. I offset the text and cut away the vector to leave an outlined clear area. It worked great.

I went to use it today and discovered that the lines (in the vector) are no longer ‘sealed’ by the cut shape, so that now I have a thousand open shapes. The cut line used to be consumed by the cutting process, donating portions of the line to connect the cut ends together.

What changed? Is there a new process or other tools/steps I need to do now?

Thanks.

Make sure the shape you’re wanting to cut is in fill mode rather than line mode and it will be a closed shape after the operation.

That’s the thing - everything is set to fill, and when I did it last year it didn’t seem to matter what kind of line or vector I was using, it always sealed the ends.

Now I’m using a fill vector and the same color cut line, and a few ends fill sometimes, but most don’t.

I’ll get some screenshots

Ok, getting the screen shots made me discover what was happening. My vector graphic has a single outline around the whole thing. LB chose to seal the ‘wrong’ parts of the vector, making it cut inverted. I need to do an offset outline of the entire thing to correct it.

Thanks for helping me work through this!
