When you select an object in the workspace it gets highlighted in the Cuts/Layers panel.
Conversely,
It would be nice if when you selected the layer in the Cuts/Layers panel that it would select the object in the workspace.

If you hold shift and click the layer it will select everything on that layer.

You can also use Edit > Select all shapes in current layer. This is covered early in the docs, in the “Zooming, Panning, Selection” topic that’s part of the beginner path.
