Cutting a Single Project Larger than Laser bed Omtech Ruida 16 x 24

Hi,

I’ve been trying to cut a project larger than my laser bed (16x24) for 1 month now. I printed and followed the step by step instructions that I found in Lightburn forum from July 2023 as well as watched the Mermaid video numerous times with no luck. A customer is requesting a 20 x 20 Antler cut out. I engraved & cut out an 8 x 8 Antler which is attached along with the svg file. However, when trying to engrave & cut larger than my 16x24 laser bed is where I’m having difficulties.

Help and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

What is the difficulty that you’re having?

Below are the instructions that I followed and I’m still unable to get the “Cut Shapes” tool to work due to it being greyed out.

  1. Draw Shapes
  2. Select shape to be cut
  3. Select cutter shape
  4. Select Tools > Cut Shapes

Your order of operation seems fine.

One thing to watch out for. Is the cutter shape a closed shape? It needs to be for this to work.

If so, can you upload the .lbrn file after setting up the cutter shape? I can review to see what the problem might be.

What do I do when selecting tools and “cut shapes” is always greyed out? I just can’t figure it out. I just rewatched the mermaid video and still no luck. Can someone please provide me with step by step instructions?

I like the photo of the completed engraving.

Thank you! The completed engraving/cut out is a 8 x 8. I’m needing to engrave & cut larger than my laser bed for a customer. Still trying to figure out how to do so.

I think you lost me…

If the engraving is only 8x8, why can’t you do that in your machine?

Even if the material is 20x20, you can pick where that 8x8 engrave area is located.

I see your graphic, but this comment made me think I’m not understanding what you’re doing.

I can engrave & cut an 8 x 8 with no problem. My laser bed is 16 x 24. I’m needing to engrave & cut larger the 16 x 24.

Hi, you’re wanting to use the pass-through doors?
Or are you wanting to ‘cut’ into 2 parts?

To cut shapes, use the rectangle tool, circle.
image
select both, project and rectangle.
Then select ‘tools’ and ‘cut shapes’

  1. Select the shape you want to cut
  2. Add the Cutting shape to the selection by holding shift while selecting the cutting shape
  3. Tools->Cut Shapes

I’m wanting to use pass through doors

Once you get the ‘cut shapes’ working, which hopefully you have now,
then you can use the ‘print and cut wizard’ in ‘laser tools’.

I’m not at my machine so i can’t check.
Good luck :+1:

Yes, I was able to get “cut shapes” to work. When selecting print, do I select “start wizard” or “set first target position?” Thank you for your help

I would use the wizard for first time.

I did select “start wizard” first, and then I set the 1st & 2nd targets, then “aligned output targets (no scaling”). I’m unsure of how the outcome will be due to the location of the 2nd target (light blue circle).

I’ve never used it myself but i thought the ‘targets’ should be something like the ones i’ve got on the lower corners of the of the ‘cut tool’ (red line)

they’re just registration marks for setting the laser head.

I’ll try and check it out tomorrow on my machine if i get the time :crossed_fingers:
