D1 20 Watt, Lightburn will not frame or run a project

I got my 20watt head in and installed. Fired up Lightburn, upgraded to the new version, and put in a test pattern for a piece of Acrylic. Sized it correctly and all looked fine. When I did the framing, it only did a 4" y axis jog, but nothing on the X. I still tried to run the file but it would not even start it. What are my steps to fix this as I want to be able to use lightburn to engrave and cut all at once?

Was LightBurn working well with the D1 prior to the 20W laser module swap?

If so, then likely something on the hardware side that may have gotten shaken loose or otherwise changed. Revisit your hardware and make sure everything is still well connected.

LightBurn itself has no knowledge or function in the laser swapping process so would have no direct bearing on the laser not behaving.

No, it has not worked well since I bought it. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall?

Assuming the installation completed without issue it’s unlikely to make a difference.

Can you elaborate what this means? In what way did it not work well? Did it have the same issue as what you’re currently experiencing?

I have not had a successful cut or engrave with Lightburn. But the no frame and no project working is new. Before it would do the project, but would occasionally just slam into the rails and stop. I have done lots of projects on this with Laserbox and it works without problem other than OE. This could be an OE, but not sure how to fix it. Do I need to kill the program and reinstall and see if that works?

If so what are the folders or files I need to remove?

What is OE?

Based on what you’re saying I suspect there will be no value in reinstalling.

Try this, confirm that the new laser module works with Laserbox. This should rule out wiring issues. At that point just a matter of sorting out what’s causing the issues on the LightBurn side.

Based on what you’re describing it may be an issue with how you’re starting the machine and the Start from settings.

Operator Error

I have everything on one switch that turns on the laser, 20 watt head, air assist, external fan, and LED lights. I plug my computer into the laser, flip the switch and start working. I did 5 projects yesterday with Laserbox.

Try this:

  1. Before turning on the laser, move the laser head to back-left
  2. Plug laser into computer
  3. Turn on laser
  4. Start LightBurn
  5. Make sure that the port in Laser window shows the correct port for your laser
  6. Make sure that “Start from” mode in Laser window is Absolute Coords
  7. Using the Map Pin icon in the Tools toolbar click on various points on the workspace. Does the laser head move to the correlating location on your laser frame?
  8. If so, then try running a job. What are the results?

That worked and I am cutting and engraving in Lightburn. Thank you for the help.
