For many years, when importing an .ai file, my layers would routinely default to my last or most used settings. For example, Layer 00 & 01 = LINE 11mm/sec speed and 65/65 power. Layers 02 and 03 would default to LINE 40mm/sec speed and 7/6. These are the settings I used for 90% of my work flow.
Now, I seem to get arbitrary power and speed settings every time I import a file. For example. Most of the time it now defaults to FILL 1000/85-50. Sometimes FILL 500/48-48, Etc.
I know the libraries can be used to load custom configurations. Just never bothered to do that because it was never necessary before. Did something change that previously used settings are no longer recognized?
In particular, you may have inadvertently hit one of the Make Default buttons along the bottom of the Cut Settings window, thus preloading the default settings for that layer to something other than you expect when starting afresh.
However, storing cut / engrave settings in the Material Library is the only way I can manage to remember which settings go with which materials and effects. I reuse the same two or three layers in most projects:
Black = engrave
Blue = mark
Red = cut
Orange = different cut
Linking a named library entry to a layer provides a quick check in the Cuts / Layers window, where you’ll see that name in addition to the numeric values.
Thank you! Yes, it happened before version updates so I know it was something I did. Okay, time to take advantage of the tools and get my library configured.
