Delete Portions of oval while in Node Editing

I am watching a video about applying a path to text. In this video he deletes portion of an oval.
I entered Node Editing, but I did not hear or see what keys were used to do the delete …May be silly question. I am a complete newbie.

If you have the latest version (0.9.06), point your mouse at the node editing tool and press the help key (F1).

Found my answer… Hold mouse over area to delete and press the letter D.
