How do I delete the rectangle without deleting the the wording and the gears?

Select the rectangle. If other things also select when you do this, click the ‘Ungroup’ button. Then de-select and try again. If things are grouped multiple times, you might need to do this more than once. At some point, selecting the rectangle will just select it by itself - when that happens, press the Del key to delete it.
