Dialog for speed and power adjustments made during the burn needs running indicator

Hello folks. Happy holidays. I am burning with an Ortur LM2 and a 5.5W (20W) as purchased fixed focus diode. In getting to know things laser engraviture oriented, I began burning line art into ceramic tiles.
As I step from line art to halftone beauties, I want to get to know what power and speed makes a good image. So, I muddle along with a few underpowered, albeit fairly slow 0.060 line logo image burns, so I decide to try 100% and a bit faster because that is always good. It started out looking way too dark so I backed off on the power and upped the speed till it looked good using the interface dialog box that accompanies a live burn session. My problem is I would like a feedback number that tells me what the rate and max power setting currently driving the session is at, both before and after my button presses. Is there a way to poll that and display it, or maybe display a box that reads the layer setting points for the current layer burning and increments it as you decrease or increase the power or speed. The reason I ask is because until I dial in that knowledge and start setting it right before the burn, I will do some burns where I would rather make a change mid-burn than waste the entire tile to start over and slowly increment into dialed in spot for burning through several tiles. So keeping track of it in my head is hard because I make a plus or minus 10% change and have to wait a bit to see results, make more adjustments and may not keep in mind how many bumps in what direction I gave the session.

So I guess what I want to know is if there is a way to get the power and speed that a burn was running at last or currently is running at? That way I can incorporate the ā€˜working’ numbers into my next layer setting and have it right from the start of the very next burn after that proofing burn.

I would also be very interested in knowing where current power and speed information are.

Both set in the cut/layer menu.

Have you ran any kind of test to see if the settings you are using (power and speed) are proper for that material?

The controller has no idea about how much actual current or power the laser is using, if that’s the question.

I know of no way that you can change any setting during a run, at least with the Ruida. Some of the gcode senders will allow a change during the run. The Ruida stores the code internally. Grbl controllers are ā€˜stream’ driven and it’s possible to modify it ā€˜on the fly’.

I’m not sure if I’m actually following you… :frowning:

Good luck

I know where they get set at for the start of the run. I seek real time numbers DURING the session because the software has a panel for decreasing or increasing the power and speed while the burn takes place. Allowing one to ā€œdial it inā€, but I want to know what the dial setting are after I succeed in doing so.

So you’ve adjusted it, but can’t relate the adjustments back to actual data to use?

I’ve never used that when I had my grbl machine, so I’m of little help.

Good luck…
