Difference between preview filling order and real world filling order

Today I was playing around with an engraving experiment. Before I started my engrave and cutting job I checked the order. The setting was set to fill per group.

After checking the preview “animation” I stared the job and noticed the fill order of the two groups were reversed. It’s not a big deal and the results are the same, but it might be worth checking out the issue. It seems logical to me that the preview and real job should be identical.

Is there a preferred way for bug reports? And what are the required and desired details the team would like to receive?

Some data:
Ruida controller 6445S controller.
Fill per group
Cut/fill selection only.
Origin: Start at current position.

If desired I can add the lightburn file tomorrow.

Hi MichMich,

This may be worth review:
Randy is also using a Ruida controller.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen it where the actual cut order was different than the preview. I’ve seen it where the actual order was different than what I expected but that was because of optimization settings overriding default settings.

Definitely do share the .lbrn file. Is there a way you can document the actual cut order as well?

Here is the file.

The only thing that I noticed going wrong was the fill order. The fill layer is set to “fill groups together”.

In the preview, the first groups to be filled is the right group (the eyes of ironman). The second group to be filled is the left part (the mask of ironman).

When my machine started etching, it started with the left part (the mask) and then proceeded with the right part (the eyes).

I can’t reproduce your Preview findings. I see mask engraving first.

Did you have Optimize Cut Path enabled? What are your settings there?

Okay, with Optimize Cut Path on with those settings I get the same Preview.

You’re certain you had Optimize Cut Path on when you did the burn?

If so, wondering if the Optimizations are not being considered when sending to laser. That should be pretty obvious though.

Absolutely certain. I checked the preview and then pressed start. As said it wasn’t a big deal. But because I was just checking the order (out of curiosity) and then noticed it wasn’t processed in that specific order. It seems like a bug so that’s why I reported it. Not because it impacts my work but because it might cause bigger issues.

It might not have been a big deal for this particular job but I would consider this a pretty big deal overall as some jobs may be very sensitive to this.

Hopefully @LightBurn can respond after the weekend.
