Hey, ya’ll. I am admittedly new to the program and lasers entirely, however, I’ve run into something that I just can’t find the answer to with all of my poking around. I hope you can help!
I’ve attached a screenshot of the issue. Specifically, the text -preview- is garbled (and is burning garbled to match the preview) but only when I have the layer set to “fill.” Whenever it is on “line” it is working juuuuust fine. I’ve tried the ‘read from controller’ button, I’ve looked at the kerf, I’ve mucked with settings galore, and I’ve downloaded a fresh version of the file.
I know this is user error because it worked fine last week. I’d leave it alone entirely, because it IS really thin text, and 'line" should work - but It DID work last week on fill.
You’ve got a bit of an oddball situation going on here.
The reason you’re not getting usable output in Fill is because of the way that the letters are constructed.
At first glance they letters appear as though they’re made of open line segments. The important part being that they don’t appear to have closed areas.
Normally, you wouldn’t be able to preview open shapes set to fill. You’d normally get an error like this:
The fact that you don’t get this with the text is a clue that something else is going on.
Upon closer inspection you can see that the individual lines are in fact made up of a closed shape with very strange arrangement such that it approximates a line.
In this screenshot I’ve duplicated the arch of the ‘A’ shape, and pulled away the top middle node using Node Edits tool to reveal the closed shape.
You are using a single line font that should only run as a “score” or in the “line” mode with less power. It looks like it isn’t a true single line font. Not sure if you used a font, or bought it this way, but it has a lot of extra lines that are almost overlaps.
If you select everything and break apart, then delete duplicates, it looks the same, but will not allow fill since it is all open shapes.
Don’t know if that helps you or not, but as said, strange file.
I understand. It was a purchase from Etsy, so I cannot explain why the creator would do it like this rather than simply using a font that was thin in the first place. VERY weird. Now I am wondering if I should bring it up with the seller or just… do it in a weak line mode and chalk it up to sellers who don’t really know what they are doing.
I really deeply truly appreciate you (three taking the time to review the file and let me know what is going on here.
