I have an Ortur Laser Master 2 Pro and am wondering if this is normal. My machine homes in the front left and when homed it’s position is X -15.36 Y -15.36. If I hit “Go to origin”, the laser tries to go further into the front left corner and hits the rails instantly triggering an Alarm 1 error.
I would have thought when it was homed the position would be at X0 Y0, is this something which needs changed?
Also, I’ve experienced some errors in the past when using absolute coordinates where it warns me I’m attempting to send the laser past it’s limits. Would this at all be related to the position not being at zero when the laser is homed?
No. Not normal.
Can you run these commands in Console and return output:
$H
$I
$#
?
Note that the first command will home the laser so be prepared for it.
Here is the output
$H
ok
$I

I misspoke, it is actually X -15.63 Y -15.63
These values surprise me based on the output. In either case the remedy is the same.
These are the two lines that’s causing you grief.
You can try fixing this by resetting your configuration. This is safe on Ortur systems. Can you run this in Console:
$RST=*
Then retest. There are cases where this may not resolve the issue because of a failure to reset properly.
In that case you can upgrade your firmware to resolve the issue.
Ortur – Firmware Repository – Ortur
In any case, I’d suggest upgrading because Ortur has resolved the issue that allowed these situations to come up.
Thank you. This is what the $RST=* command returned.
$RST=*

[MSG: Flame detector active,Ambient infrared value:4091]
Grbl 1.1f [‘$’ for help]
However, the status bar says Busv and is completely blue even after 10 minutes of waiting, so I can’t make the laser do anything. It looks like I need to upgrade the firmware right away.
Thank you very much!
That’s a little odd. You may need to power cycle the laser or at least force a reconnect by right-clicking Devices button in Laser window.
Just finished updating the firmware, the origin is now at X0 Y0 when homed and the $RST=* command works perfectly too!
Thank you so much for helping me out!
