I use quite a few other design related softwares, I find that being able to drag an object while holding alt is an efficient way to copy an object. Does something like this exist in LB ? I know I can just highlight, copy/paste, or even cmd+d to duplicate, but the drag/alt is a super efficient way to copy objects, I find it a real workflow aid, tia for any feedbacks
Nothing like that in my Windows version, but I discovered a really neat thing while testing in v1.7.08.
If you hold the Shift Key while dragging, you will get dotted lines at 0, 45, and 90 degrees. When dragging the object, you can only travel along one of these lines. Many, many, many times I wanted to move something in X or Y only without messing up the alignment in the other axis. I just discovered another Lightburn feature!
Hi thanks for chipping in. Yes holding shift while dragging works like this in many softwares, and agreed it is super helpful . I’d love to hear if the developers of LB could introduce drag+alt to copy an object
Try this:
- Click to select the object (or select whatever you want)
- Hit
Ctrl-D
to duplicate it - Click-drag to new location
- Profit!
yeh cmd+d I already discovered, workflow habits from other softwares have me trying/hoping that I can just click drag while holding alt to create a copy . Thanks for chipping in
Aye, old habits die hard.
Think of it this way: if you started out with LightBurn, the others would look wrong.
I flip between about 5 graphic programs. They all zoom a bit different, and copy and paste a bit different. Would be nice if there was a standard, but…
Yep , it is very nice though to just be able to click/drag alt, once you try it you never look back
Yeh similar, I work with multiple softwares, both 2d and 3d and there’s always little nuances between them, and I’m yet to find that ‘perfect’ one . Another thing I think would be great in LB is a Gumball, some call it a Gizmo, very very powerful little thing
To be honest, It’s shocking this isn’t a feature. It’s so common, it’s hard to fathom why it isn’t a feature, but here I am on a google search trying to find out what the correct key is for a drag clone. Heck even my simple notepad drag clones graphics.
Yeh it’s a pretty common feature in a lot of softwares, I find it really handy in my workflow
Looks like you are building momentum. I suggest you offer this via our Feature Suggestions site and invite others to vote it up.
After some further internal discussions, unlikely. ‘Alt’+Drag is ‘Auto-guides’, and ‘Ctrl+D’ already dupes in place and can be trivially dragged from there.
In Affinity products it’s cmd/ctrl drag . @Rick have you ever considered a Gumball/Gizmo for quick adjustments ?
