Drag chain problem

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone knows how to get the drag chain to sit lower and nice instead of sitting up as it’s hitting the ram attachments.

It was sitting nice and low before putting in the wires and air line.

Hi.

 that’s unfortunately how it usually goes if there’s anything stiff put inside the chain.

Unless the wires or looms are binding somehow, usually the culprit for the increased radius is the stiff pneumatic hose(s) (or even stiffer hydraulic hoses in industrial settings).

The remedy is not to fashion makesift guides and/or guards, but rather to switch to a more flexible hose, or wires/looms if those are causing the issue.

There are special wires and looms available for industrial robots, manipulators and CNC machines, but those are rather pricey since those have many other special features as well as flexibility, and the gauges are not quite suitable for our tiny machines anyway.

As for the air hose, PU-hoses are more flexible than the more common and cheaper PVC varities, but if the pressure is relatively low as it usually is in our applications, a rubber or silicone hose is more than adequate.

Regards,

Sam

In addition to flexy hoses, all the wires should have silicone insulation. Not only is silicone insulation bendy, it will last much much longer under continual use than PVC.
