EM-Smart Basic2 not matching sizes with Lightburn

Hey all. First post. I installed Lightburn Galvo v1.6.3 to use with my EM-Smart Basic2 and it’s doing everything it should. However, it seems to be overdoing measurements. If I do a 30mm square it marks it OK but it measures at 36.5mm. I’m hoping I’ve missed a setting somewhere but it all looks OK to me. Also, the red preview laser is slightly blurred making alignment quite difficult. Is this related to the other issue? I altered the height until the preview box was sharp but obviously it didn’t mark at all as it’s way out of focus. I basically uninstalled everything then just reinstalled Ezcad2 and it’s exactly the same (which I hadn’t noticed as I was just running quick tests to make sure it was marking correctly, which it was). This makes me think it’s a hardware issue, possibly lens? Any suggestions please? Thanks.

This is pretty normal. Galvo lasers have to be calibrated for scale and a couple other things related to the lens. See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x08cRPkyToc

Thanks for the info. I had already checked out that vid but foolishly stopped after I did the first test because it all looked spot on. Having watched it again I realised that a tiny amount of difference can have several mm’s of effect so I’m doing the whole thing right now. Thanks again.

You can just measure and adjust the scale after you’re done as well. I think I still have the math not quite right in the scale handling of that tool, so sometimes it’s necessary to correct it manually anyway.

Well the odd thing is the first time I started it previously it really was bang on. I was a print finisher for 5 years and developed a very accurate eye which is useful. This time I can clearly see it’s far from bang on so I’m not sure what changed during that time to alter it so much.

All sorted. Didn’t realise it was so easy. Fixed the bulge by eye which ended up bang on and then just entered 117 in both Galvo scale sections in device settings and voila, accurate again.

A well calibrated eyecrometer is a good life skill  glad you’re up and running!
