Emblaser2 + LightBurn V2 – Confused About Homing Behaviour

Hi all,

I’ve just purchased a Darkly Labs Emblaser2 and LightBurn V2. I’m fairly experienced with CNC interfaces, but I’m running into something unexpected with how LightBurn handles homing and origin.

Setup:
LightBurn auto-detected the Emblaser2.

I manually set the workspace limits: X = 500mm, Y = 300mm.

Origin set to Front Left (0,0).

Laser settings: Absolute Coordinates, Job Origin = Top Left.

What I’m seeing:
Without USB connected: When I power on the Emblaser2, it auto-homes to the top left (confirmed by audible clicks from the limit switches and two beeps).

With USB connected and LightBurn running: The machine immediately moves to bottom left (0,0). Pressing the “Home” button does nothing.

If I jog the head to center (X250, Y150) and press “Home,” it returns to bottom left—not top left where the limit switches are.

Interface Observations:
LightBurn shows the cutting area as a rectangle.

Green square (job origin) is at top left, red square (machine origin?) is at bottom left.

My confusion:
Shouldn’t pressing “Home” send the head to the top left, where the physical limit switches are? It seems like LightBurn is treating bottom left as the home position, which contradicts the Emblaser2 documentation and behavior when USB is disconnected.

I can’t find any setting in LightBurn to explicitly define the machine’s home as top left or to invert the Y-axis if needed.

Any help clarifying whether this is expected behaviour—or if I’ve missed a configuration step—would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Your origin in your home position must be set the same.

Set your origin. Top left, same as the machine home origin.

Did you load the .lbdev file from Darkly (should be on USB stick)

Unfortunately when we moved house, things were misplaced and likely throw out if we didn’t know what they were. New PC etc etc. We do not have the USB anymore.

I haven’t looked, but I would imagine it is on their web site, if not I would email Darkly support and ask for a copy.

I have just sent them an email to ask for this.

My next issue is that I have just updated the drivers on the Emblaser 2 and now Lightburn can no longer find the machine.

I have set the origin of the laser now to the top left, but before I went to test, I did something stupid. I decided to check the version of the firmware of the laser and found it was running old firmware. I then decided in my infinite wisdom to fix something that was not broken. I update the firmware, and boom! Machine no longer findable in Lightburn. Oiyoyoy :frowning:

I feel I am trying to walk through quicksand right now

The correct way to get out of quicksand is a slow breast-stoke swim, The .lbdev file MAY fix this, if not as long as you can see the CH34x USB port list the driver SHOULD work, I have had cases where I have had to load the CH34x drivers 2-3 times before they correctly loaded even though each attempt SAYS the install completed ok. And on the plus side, you should get a fast response as its in their normal business hours.

Drivers? Or did you change firmware?

You are right, I wrote drivers, I meant firmware. I have just edited my response, Thank you for clarifying.

I see, so without knowing what firmware you had and now have… It would be hard to know what exactly has changed. Is it possible to roll back to the older firmware just so we only have one variable at once?

Have you contacted Darkly Labs directly regarding your issue ? Shoot us an email including your license key so we can see if your license has the correct meta tags for your machine.

support@lightburnsoftware.com

The Emblaser uses a specific tag that automatically enables some functionality in LightBurn.

I am unsure what the firmware was as it didn’t really give me any information. I simply used the instructions on their website to do this through USB as I had probably the original first version of the firmware Updating Firmware (E2 & ECore) – Darkly Labs

Unfortunately, the machine no longer shows up through USB for me to roll this back.

I have contacted Darkly Labs late last night and again a few minutes ago related to the issue as the machine is no longer able to connect to Lightburn. I tried for a few hours including installing fresh on to another laptop in the workshop to no success but needing to do this to rule out issues with other computer or USB cable which worked prior to the firmware upgrade.

Thank you for letting me know that. I was not aware of this. I have sent through an email a few minutes ago to Support and my licence key.

Once I can get connected again, I will try this.
