Morning all, this my first post in this forum…
I have a ComMarker B4 20w fibre laser that i use mainly for engraving in a trophy business and does a great job.
I have just attached a rotary to meet the local yeti engraving craze … with limited positive results thus far. My question is about colour as i have finished engraving 20 light teal coloured (non yeti) tumblers and they turned out ok but as soon as i tried to engrave same logo with same settings on a dark purple tumbler it basically just left a shadow on the surface ?? I have tried every setting i can think of to no avail … if i turn the power up and speed down etc it just melts the surface … i have 30 to do but running out of test cups. Any ideas much appreciated. Cheers
Use SMALL test patches, not the entire logo.
Try cleaning the shadow off the results with a light solvent.
Use multiple passes
Too much power will burn the metal and turn it dark.
Keep at it. Even low powered diodes can have great results on tumblers.
Diodes do have issues with blue paint, but it is possible.
I’m already low on hair thanks for the reply.
I failed to mention, focal depth is critical. I have a box full of burned up tumblers, I keep all my mistakes so I can use those as test subjects
Blue cup cut on 10w Ortur.
had same issue with Yeti’s from Red to Lime Green. I’m running 30w Fiber
and been finding success have the laser slightly out of focus I start at 30 to 40% power and adjust, may take a few passes. I start my speed at 750, red I run at 600 speed at 35%
